One of the unique things about LEGO that sets kids’ imaginations ablaze is the complete lack of rules. It's that spirit which guided this particular creative project, helmed by the ever-inventive Traktor.
All bets are off visually in a world that constantly shifts and rebuilds itself to suit the whims of the storyteller, creating an amazing mash-up of genre and style that twists and turns like a child's imagination at play. There are no boundaries or strict narrative constraints here — a high-octane police chase can effortlessly collide with an epic, mythical dragon encounter, unified by colourful plastic bricks and pure, uninhibited creative anarchy.
As you can imagine, it was a huge project to research and design, pulling in a multitude of styles and references and distilling them into something genuinely original. Every single page required meticulous craftsmanship to capture that chaotic yet intentional magic. And, as we got the project underway, we recognised a key aspect would be bringing this playful world to life through an expansive collection of inspiration and reference material that dialled in the poppy, stylised look the directors were after - compositing imagery where characters played with absurd scale, bold block colours, and silly playtime logic. A modern but vibrant design tied the presentation together, complete with custom concept art and illustrated storyboard frames.
By grounding surreal, cinematic scale in authentic LEGO architecture, the visual development successfully bridged the gap between grand Hollywood spectacle and pure living-room make-believe. Traktor won the pitch and, as always, delivered their trademark blend of premium visual effects and a keen eye for visual humour. The balance was perfect for LEGO and proved inspiring for kids and adults alike, receiving widespread plaudits from all sides on release. It’s not only a celebration of the joyful chaos of creation, but a tribute to imagination.
