Nature's Way
Filip Engstrom has long been a director we admire for his grand, colourful, and playful concept pieces, so we were absolutely thrilled when Smuggler invited us to collaborate on his campaign for Nature's Way. What they needed were the perfect backdrops to seamlessly augment Filip’s imaginative vision and anchor the commercial campaign’s whimsical narrative tone.
To help achieve this, we jumped right in to explore and source a wide variety of options for the project's backplates, ranging from a parched American desert to a tropical rainforest. Every single environment demanded exact colour fidelity and distinct atmospheric depth to blend effortlessly with the talent and animated elements. Our role quickly expanded from there as we handled the intricate footage licensing and gathered a rich collection of additional art department and texture references, ranging from sun-sculpted rock formations to vibrant canopy foliage, giving the VFX team precisely what they needed to build believable worlds.
Striking the right visual balance required meticulous curation and rapid iteration. Working in lockstep with the director, colourists, and post-production crew allowed us to solve complex creative challenges in real time. Together, we refined environmental details until each surreal landscape felt simultaneously wondrous and grounded. We continuously evaluated natural light angles, camera focal lengths, spatial proportions, and plate movement, ensuring that every background plate complemented the live-action performances while preserving the campaign's signature playful energy throughout every single scene.
The result was an incredible front-row seat to an amazing transformation. It was wonderfully rewarding to watch the campaign evolve step-by-step from the initial storyboards and animatics, through the pre-visualisation stage, and finally into the stunning, polished product we see today. Ambitious projects of this scale showcase the true power of creative partnership, demonstrating that real synergy across a production can bring any concept to life.
